The UN Global report on Violence against Children

On October 11 2006, United Nations independent expert Paulo Sergio Pinheiro presented the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence Against Children to the General Assembly. The unprecedented study took two years to complete, spanned different continents and received the contribution of experts, governments and NGOs.

It alerts to the vulnerability of children to violence both at home, under institutional care and under the yoke of organized crime.

Comunidad Segura interviewed Paulo Sergio Pinheiro a few hours before he presented his report to the UN. He stressed that the report's conclusions are a consensus among experts on the topic and asks for an end to corporal punishment.

According to COAV program founder Luke Dowdney, the report gives policy makers an important remit to discuss actions in favor of youth involved in armed violence.

Per Tamm of Save the Children Sweden, comments on the study's repercussions and the importance of hearing what children have to say when designing child rights policies.
